Bengaluru, long admired for its consistently mild climate, is experiencing an unexpected surge in temperatures, breaking records and challenging its reputation as a cool haven. Typically, summer begins in early March, but this year, the city is already seeing higher-than-usual heat in mid-February.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru has surpassed the National Capital Region (NCR) in temperature, a surprising shift for the city. Over the past year, Bengaluru’s temperature has increased by 2.7°C, indicating a significant change in its weather patterns. On February 17, 2025, the city hit its hottest day yet, reaching a high of 35.9°C. In comparison, Delhi recorded a more modest 27°C, reversing the typical trend where Delhi endures harsher summer conditions.
Despite the intense daytime heat, evenings in Bengaluru are expected to remain relatively cool, with temperatures dipping to around 17°C. Meteorologists predict that daytime warmth will persist in the coming weeks, keeping the city warmer than Delhi for now.
On February 15, Bengaluru recorded 33°C, which is 2.4°C higher than the usual seasonal temperature. Several parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru and surrounding districts like Chitradurga, Mysuru, and Mandya, have seen above-normal temperatures this February, signaling an early start to the summer season.
