Bengaluru: As devastating floods continue to affect large parts of Assam, several Bengaluru-based organisations and individuals have launched fundraising campaigns and relief initiatives to support affected families.
Rather than collecting large quantities of relief material, most groups are encouraging monetary donations, enabling trusted local organisations in Assam to purchase and distribute essential supplies more efficiently.
Assam Society of Bangalore leads relief campaign
The Assam Society of Bangalore launched its ‘Together for Assam’ campaign after receiving distress calls from members whose families were impacted by the floods.
The initiative is being implemented in four phases—food relief, distribution of essential supplies, medical assistance and long-term rehabilitation.
According to campaign coordinator Antara Baruah, the food relief phase has been completed, with volunteers now distributing hygiene kits and household essentials in flood-hit districts including Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat.
Association raises funds for affected families
The Assam Association Bangalore (AAB) has also mobilised support from members, well-wishers and the Assamese community in Bengaluru.
The association has raised around ₹2.5 lakh, with funds being channelled to trusted NGOs and volunteers working in affected areas.
Initially focusing on food and safe drinking water, the organisation has expanded its efforts to include bleaching powder, mosquito nets, utensils and dry rations. It also plans to organise medical camps as relief operations continue.
Actor joins relief efforts
Actor and dancer Nithyashri has launched an independent relief drive after partnering with Assam-based Aashayein Foundation.
Unlike most campaigns that collect financial contributions, she chose to gather relief materials directly. A social media appeal helped collect nearly 150 kg of essentials, including clothes, sanitary products and books, with the first consignment already dispatched to Assam.
She has since partnered with Rotary Bangalore West for a second collection drive and is currently seeking donations of medical supplies, children’s clothing, books, sanitary products and wearable clothes.
The initiatives highlight how Bengaluru’s communities are coming together to provide timely support for flood-affected families, ensuring relief reaches those in need through coordinated efforts on the ground.
