Bengaluru: Two police personnel from HSR Layout station have been suspended for allegedly demanding a bribe to register a cheating case. The officers in question are sub-inspector Basavaraj and head constable Honnappa Pujari.
Jai Anand, a startup founder, approached the police to take action against three of his employees, who he claimed had defrauded him. An FIR was filed on February 11. Anand alleged that his employees diverted vendor payments into their private accounts and took valuables such as laptops and iPhones, leading to a financial loss of ₹70.4 lakh.
When the police delayed the investigation, Anand accused them of demanding bribes in the form of a laptop, tablet, and ₹3,000 in cash. Frustrated, he escalated the matter to senior police officials and lodged a complaint.
Following an internal probe, Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed the suspension of the officers. Meanwhile, the role of another head constable, Mariappa Adeen, is being examined, and the police inspector involved has been asked to provide an explanation. Further action will follow based on findings.
