Bengaluru: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru Traffic Police have stepped up their drive against abandoned vehicles across the city, with the five newly formed city corporations identifying 12 locations where towed vehicles will be stored until they are claimed by their owners or disposed of through auction.

The initiative is part of an ongoing effort to clear public roads and footpaths of abandoned vehicles that obstruct traffic and occupy valuable public space.

South corporation identifies the most storage sites

According to GBA sources, the Bengaluru South City Corporation has identified the highest number of storage locations, with six sites earmarked for abandoned vehicles.

The Bengaluru West City Corporation has identified three locations, while the Central, East and North city corporations have identified one site each.

Vehicles to be shifted to designated yards

Vehicles removed from the Bengaluru Central City Corporation limits will be kept at a yard in Lakkasandra.

Those from the Bengaluru East City Corporation area will be shifted to government land near Hope Farm Junction, while vehicles from Bengaluru North City Corporation limits will be stored on government land at Survey No. 99, Kogilu.

For the western part of the city, storage sites have been identified near Chikkalasandra Bus Stop, BDA land at Survey No. 78 in Chandra Layout, and the Mysore Lamps premises in Malleswaram.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru South has earmarked land near Fortis Hospital on Bannerghatta Road, Ragigudda Metro Station, Kadirenahalli, AECS Layout, Vijaya Bank Layout, and the BTM Layout Police Quarters.

Over 1,200 notices issued

As part of the enforcement drive, GBA officials have pasted seven-day notices on abandoned vehicles, asking owners to remove them before further action is taken.

Between July 10 and July 21, officials issued notices to 1,286 abandoned vehicles across Bengaluru.

So far, 23 vehicles have been towed after their owners failed to respond within the stipulated period.

Authorities said the drive will continue across the city to reclaim public spaces, improve traffic movement and ensure roads remain free from long-abandoned vehicles.
