A Bengaluru resident has alleged that officials at the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) demanded a bribe to issue his late uncle’s death certificate, triggering anger and criticism on social media.

Khaleel Khazi shared the experience on X, claiming the incident took place at the BBMP Birth and Death Certificate Registrar’s office in Jayanagar 4th Block.

‘Never experienced this kind of behaviour’

In his post, Khazi expressed shock and disappointment over the alleged behaviour of officials while his family was trying to obtain the death certificate.

“Never ever experienced this kind of behaviour from the BBMP birth and death certificate registrar officials at the Jayanagar 4th block,” he wrote on X.

The allegation quickly gained attention online, with many users reacting strongly and sharing similar experiences involving delays, corruption allegations, and difficulties in accessing civic services.

Social media users demand action

Several users criticised the alleged demand for money in a sensitive situation involving the death of a family member.

Commenters questioned why citizens should allegedly face harassment while accessing essential government services such as birth and death certificates.

Others urged the Karnataka government and BBMP authorities to investigate the matter and take strict action if the allegations are found to be true.

The incident has once again reignited conversations around transparency, accountability, and corruption within civic administration systems.

As of now, BBMP has not officially responded to the allegations made in the viral social media post
