A Bengaluru resident has sparked conversation online after sharing why he willingly pays nearly ₹40,000 per month in rent, calling it an investment in lifestyle rather than just accommodation.
‘Not paying for a house, but a lifestyle’
Manik Salaria shared his perspective in a viral Instagram video, explaining that rent should not be judged solely based on the size or location of the apartment.
He said his colleague questioned his decision, pointing out the high rent and distance from the workplace. However, Salaria emphasised that his choice is driven by the overall living experience.
Value of gated community living
According to him, living in a gated society offers significant benefits beyond just a home. These include security, access to a clubhouse, and recreational facilities such as a gym, swimming pool, badminton court, and spaces for activities like box cricket.
He added that the clean and green surroundings encourage daily walks and create a more relaxed lifestyle.
Community and celebrations matter
Salaria also highlighted the importance of community living, noting that festivals are celebrated together, adding to a sense of belonging.
Such experiences, he said, contribute to a more fulfilling life compared to focusing only on rent costs.
Mental peace over convenience
For him, the biggest advantage is the ability to mentally disconnect after work. He explained that comfort and peace at home outweigh the inconvenience of a longer commute.
Social media divided
The video has drawn mixed reactions online. While many users supported his view, saying quality of life matters, others pointed out the rising cost of living in Bengaluru.
The discussion reflects a broader shift in how urban residents evaluate housing — not just by price, but by lifestyle, amenities, and wellbeing.
