A 46-year-old man, who was reported missing after allegedly murdering his wife, was found hanging from a tree in Hulimavu, Southeast Bengaluru, on Saturday.

The victim, Meena, 35, was discovered in a pool of blood by her son at their Hulimavu residence around 7:30 pm on Friday. Meena worked as a housekeeper, and her husband, Mahesh Kumar, had gone missing shortly after the incident. Investigators quickly suspected Kumar of the murder, as he had left his phone behind and locked the house from the outside before disappearing. The case took a tragic turn when passersby found Kumar hanging from a tree later that evening and informed the police.

Kumar, originally from Maharashtra, moved to Bengaluru about two decades ago and had lost contact with his family. According to police, Kumar suspected Meena of having an extramarital affair, which she reportedly admitted to but refused to end. This admission deeply troubled Kumar, who had previously confided in his son that he contemplated killing Meena but refrained due to concerns about his son’s future.

On the evening of the murder, the couple engaged in a heated argument over the affair, leading Kumar to strike Meena fatally on the head with a rod. After the attack, he fled the scene and is believed to have taken his own life around 10 pm. Before leaving, Kumar contacted his son’s girlfriend, asking her to look after his son, and attempted to reach his son, but was unsuccessful.

Kumar was Meena’s second husband, and the couple did not have any children together. He worked as a crane operator for a prominent builder in the city. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
