A 30-year-old merchant navy worker, Bilal Rafeeq, has been arrested by Bengaluru police for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman and coercing her into undergoing multiple abortions. The victim, a nurse, filed a police complaint detailing their relationship, which began on Instagram in 2021. The First Information Report (FIR) states that Rafeeq coerced the woman into sexual activity against her will, resulting in three pregnancies.
The police have booked Rafeeq under the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
In a separate incident, Bengaluru police have also registered an FIR against Dharwad Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni for allegedly raping a 34-year-old woman, with charges including extortion filed against her and others.
