In a bid to gain firsthand insight into commuter problems, Bengaluru’s elected MPs took a ride on the city’s metro during peak hours on Monday morning. Their goal was to interact with passengers and gather feedback to enhance public transport infrastructure.
Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who inspected the Majestic metro station, emphasized the need for platform screen doors to improve passenger safety. He also highlighted issues with confusing signage at various stations and urged the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to address these concerns. Surya suggested that BMRCL increase its fleet size to accommodate the growing number of daily riders, which currently averages 8 lakh. He noted that the BMRCL plans to induct two new trains per month starting June 2025.
Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan interacted with passengers on the Purple Line and proposed 11 measures to enhance metro travel. His recommendations include increasing train frequency during peak hours, deploying security guards to manage crowds, improving feeder bus connectivity, allowing metered autos for last-mile travel, and expanding seating on platforms. He also suggested the introduction of monthly passes, expansion of smart card top-up facilities, and exploring retail and advertising opportunities.
These suggestions aim to address the pressing issues faced by metro commuters and improve the overall efficiency and safety of Bengaluru’s public transportation system.
