Bengaluru: Multiple raids conducted across city markets and localities

Despite the ban on single-use plastic (SUP), officials from Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) have seized 9,567 kg of plastic in 158 cases and collected fines amounting to ₹7,38,700.

BSWML CEO Karee Gowda urged the public and vendors to refrain from using SUP and to adopt cloth bags, highlighting the role of citizens in preventing health and environmental pollution.

Details of raids and fines

  • KR Market, Block A: 29 kg of SUP seized in 3 cases, fine recovered ₹30,000.
  • KR Market, Block C: 6,310 kg of SUP seized in 22 cases, fine recovered ₹3,500; a godown was also seized.
  • Avenue Road: 300 kg of SUP seized in 17 cases, fine recovered ₹40,000.
  • Kalasipalya: 150 kg of SUP seized in 24 cases, fine collected ₹45,900.
  • Yeshwanthpur: 110 kg of SUP seized in 27 cases, fine collected ₹61,800.
  • Other localities: 450 kg of SUP seized in 27 cases, fine collected ₹1,00,500.
  • Dasarahalli: 218 kg of SUP seized from a manufacturing unit.
  • Chamarajpet, Akkipet, Balepet: 2,000 kg of SUP seized in 37 cases.

Officials emphasised that regular monitoring and strict enforcement are essential to curb plastic pollution in the city.
