In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Bengaluru police have arrested 54 individuals involved in drug peddling across various stations within the city police commissionerate area. This operation, conducted throughout July, has resulted in the registration of 38 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, according to City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda.

During a press conference on Friday, Commissioner Dayananda revealed the details of the operation, highlighting the substantial drug seizures. Among the confiscated substances were 114 kilograms of ganja, 176 grams of opium, 745 grams of cocaine, and four kilograms of MDMA. The operation also saw the arrest of four foreign nationals, adding an international dimension to the crackdown.

The scope of the crackdown extended beyond drug offenses. The police also targeted other illegal activities such as matka (gambling), cricket betting, illicit liquor sales, and human smuggling. As part of these broader efforts, an FIR has been filed against those involved in these activities, leading to the registration of a total of 226 cases and the arrest of 326 individuals.

The operation’s success was further underscored by the apprehension of several notorious criminals who had previously evaded capture. Commissioner Dayananda reported that 43 absconding suspects involved in serious crimes—including murder, extortion, attempted murder, assault, and house theft—were arrested and brought before the court. Additionally, nine rowdy elements who had been hiding from the law were also apprehended.

This crackdown forms part of the Bengaluru police’s ongoing efforts to address and mitigate various forms of criminal activity within the city. The enforcement actions aim to disrupt and dismantle organized crime networks while enhancing public safety and security.

The significant number of arrests and drug seizures reflects the intensification of law enforcement measures in tackling the drug trade and other illegal operations. The Bengaluru police continue to focus on high-impact interventions to curb criminal activities and improve the overall safety and well-being of the community.
