In a strong push to improve road safety, the Bengaluru Traffic Police registered 756 cases during a week-long special enforcement drive targeting drunk driving and overspeeding across the city.
Intensive drive across the city
The enforcement drive was conducted from March 16 to March 22, covering all 53 traffic police stations in Bengaluru. Officials focused on identifying motorists driving under the influence of alcohol as well as those exceeding prescribed speed limits.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to curb dangerous driving behaviour and ensure safer roads for all commuters.
Majority cases linked to drunk driving
During the crackdown on drunk driving, traffic police inspected a total of 45,568 vehicles across the city. Out of these, 634 cases were registered against offenders found driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officials noted that such violations remain one of the leading causes of road accidents, prompting stricter enforcement and regular checks.
Action against overspeeding
In addition to drunk driving cases, police also targeted overspeeding violations. A total of 122 cases were booked during the drive, with fines amounting to ₹1.29 lakh collected from offenders.
Authorities emphasised that overspeeding significantly increases the risk of accidents, particularly on busy urban roads.
Continued focus on road safety
Traffic officials stated that the special drive is part of a broader strategy to promote responsible driving habits in Bengaluru. They added that similar enforcement initiatives will continue in the coming weeks to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
With rising vehicle density and increasing traffic challenges in the city, the police have reiterated their commitment to strict monitoring and enforcement to safeguard public safety.
