Bengaluru: In a swift and daring operation, Kamakshipalya police apprehended notorious rowdy sheeter Pawan Gowda, alias Kadubu, in connection with a heinous case involving the stripping and assault of a young man who had informed the police.
Acting on reliable intelligence, a special team of officers tracked Gowda to Ullala near Kengeri and launched a carefully planned operation early today. However, the accused attempted to attack the officers with a knife when confronted, prompting the police to open fire in self-defence.
“Gowda’s aggressive behaviour left us with no choice but to take protective measures,” said a senior police official. “Our primary concern was to apprehend him without harm to our personnel or bystanders.”
Gowda sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the altercation and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Constable Venkatesh, who bravely intervened to subdue the accused, also suffered injuries and is receiving medical attention.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are conducting further investigations.
“Pawan Gowda’s arrest sends a strong message that we will not tolerate violence against informants or citizens who cooperate with law enforcement,” said Bengaluru Police Commissioner, praising the Kamakshipalya police team for their professionalism and bravery.
Gowda’s criminal history, marked by multiple cases of intimidation and violence, had earned him the designation of rowdy sheeter. Today’s arrest brings relief to the community and reinforces the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
An investigation into the assault and stripping incident, which triggered the police action, is ongoing.
