For New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Bengaluru city police took extra precautions to ensure the safety of women, especially in areas known for large crowds like Koramangala and HSR Layout. Understanding the importance of providing immediate help in case of emergencies, women’s safety kiosks were set up, stocked with T-shirts, kurtas, and shawls in various sizes. This initiative aimed to assist women who might face distress, including those whose clothes could be torn in crowded or unruly situations.
Southeast division police, anticipating a significant number of women revellers, made sure that the kiosks would be ready to provide not only clothes but also first aid kits, water bottles, and other basic supplies. In case of an incident where clothing might be torn due to jostling, especially near festival venues like pubs, staff members were stationed across these areas to help women swiftly and discreetly. The police were also mindful of the possibility of mischievous individuals deliberately causing harm, and had set up a robust plan to respond to such situations.
Women officers, home guards, and civil defense volunteers were assigned to closely monitor these areas to assist those in need. The initiative reflects the police department’s commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for women during public celebrations.
