Sargam Prakash, a Bengaluru professional working in a hybrid model, recently shared an innovative way he overcame communication barriers with his housemaid. In a LinkedIn post, Prakash explained how his domestic helper faced challenges in understanding his work schedule, as language barriers prevented her from reading or writing messages in English.

While the housemaid communicated using WhatsApp, simple voice notes or greetings like “Hi” were often ineffective when Prakash was in meetings or focused on work. To address this, he introduced a straightforward emoji-based system: a house emoji to indicate he’s home, and a car emoji to show he’s at work. This simple method has greatly improved their communication, reducing misunderstandings and streamlining daily coordination.

Prakash highlighted the surprising effectiveness of this approach, noting that emojis, often seen as playful symbols in casual chats, can also be powerful tools for fostering inclusivity and clarity in real-life situations. His post has garnered attention from many professionals navigating hybrid work, sparking conversations on how technology can simplify interactions across language barriers.

LinkedIn users responded with a mix of practical suggestions, personal anecdotes, and humor. Some offered alternatives like iOS automation for messaging, while others shared experiences of guiding their housemaids on financial literacy.
