Bengaluru – A massive international sports stadium, expected to be more than double the size of the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, is on the cards for Bengaluru. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that approximately 50 acres of land have been earmarked for the ambitious project, which will accommodate up to 60,000 spectators.
The announcement came during the 516th birth anniversary celebration of the city’s founder, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda. This initiative is part of several major infrastructure plans revealed by Shivakumar, marking his second year as the minister overseeing Bengaluru’s development.
While the exact site is yet to be officially disclosed, insiders suggest that the proposed stadium will likely be located in Dr K Shivaram Karanth Layout near Mavallipura. The spot is strategically positioned about 8 kilometers from Yelahanka and near the under-construction Peripheral Ring Road (PRR).
Although the timing of the announcement follows the recent tragedy at Chinnaswamy Stadium that led to 11 deaths, officials clarified that the project was in the works for months, led by the Bangalore Development Authority.
In addition to the stadium, Shivakumar highlighted several large-scale urban development plans worth ₹1 lakh crore. These include 40 km of tunnel roads, 118 km of elevated corridors, upgraded solid waste systems, expanded Cauvery water supply under phase six, and the digital delivery of e-khatas.
These developments aim to transform Bengaluru into a modern, efficient urban hub ready for global recognition.
