Bengaluru witnessed intense rainfall on Wednesday evening, especially in north and central zones, leading to waterlogging and severe traffic disruptions. Key neighbourhoods such as Domlur, Rajajinagar, Malleswaram, Whitefield, Koramangala, Yelahanka, and BTM Layout were hit by heavy showers, with rainfall recorded at 5.5 mm (City), 5.3 mm (HAL Airport), and 3.0 mm (KIAL), as per IMD data.

Between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm, heavy rain drenched areas around HAL Airport Road, Silk Board, Outer Ring Road, and MG Road, flooding stretches like Varthur Main Road. Traffic police reported severe waterlogging at hotspots including Belathur-Hope Farm Road, Hebbal flyover, Hennur, and Ballari Road. Heavy congestion was noted from Hebbal to city limits, KR Pura to Benniganahalli, and Nagavara to Hebbal on ORR.

Residents voiced frustration. “In Malleswaram, fallen branches and dug-up roads worsen traffic,” said Anagha, while Ramya KS from Vasantha Vallabha Nagar added, “Blocked drains and backflowing sewage due to open trenches and poor maintenance are a recurring nightmare during rains.”

According to N. Puviarasan, Scientist ‘F’, more rain is on the way. On Thursday, Bengaluru is expected to receive heavy rainfall, with coastal Karnataka, Shivamogga, Chikmagaluru, and Belagavi forecast to get extremely heavy showers. The week ahead may bring gusty winds (30–40 kmph) and heavy rain in several parts of Karnataka.
