A Bengaluru-based startup from the Cambridge Institute of Technology has won the Cyber Security Grand Challenge 2.0, securing a ₹1 crore prize for its innovative biometric identification system.

National recognition for innovation

Cambrian SkillsDA Technologies and Consultancy Services LLP (CSTCS) emerged as the winner of the prestigious challenge organised by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI).

Launched in January 2025 on the MyGov platform, the initiative aimed to promote innovation in key areas such as API security, data protection, AI-based threat detection, and biometric systems.

Unique biometric solution

The winning startup developed a cutting-edge identification system based on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from human skin. This technology identifies individuals through their unique chemical signature, offering a new layer of security beyond traditional biometrics.

Tackling biometric fraud

The innovation is expected to address growing concerns around biometric fraud, particularly cases involving cloned fingerprints in systems like Aadhaar-enabled payments.

By introducing a more advanced and difficult-to-replicate identification method, the technology could significantly enhance security in financial and identity verification systems.

Boost for India’s cyber security ecosystem

Officials from MeitY highlighted that such initiatives are crucial for strengthening India’s indigenous cyber security capabilities and encouraging homegrown solutions.

The challenge has also helped spotlight emerging startups working in advanced security technologies.

A step towards future-ready security

The achievement marks a significant milestone for the Bengaluru startup and reflects the growing role of innovation in addressing evolving cyber threats.

As digital systems expand, such advancements are expected to play a key role in ensuring safer and more reliable security frameworks.
