Bengaluru: In a concerning incident at Holy Christ English School, Jayanagar IV Block, a teacher has been booked for allegedly assaulting a sixth-grade student, resulting in a broken tooth. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday during a water play session among students.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the student and his classmates were spraying water on each other when some water splashed onto their Hindi teacher, Azmath. Enraged, she allegedly hit the boy with a wooden roll, leading to his injury.

On Friday, Azmath reportedly approached the police, claiming harassment by the boy’s parents over a previous fee dispute. Police had already issued a notice to Azmath and recorded her statement regarding the incident.

Following a complaint from the boy’s father, Azmath has been charged under multiple sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, as well as Section 122 of the Bangalore Notification System (BNS), which deals with harm caused by sudden provocation. Police have clarified that since the potential punishment is less than seven years, Azmath will not be arrested at this time.

The boy’s father expressed frustration, revealing that this is not the first troubling incident involving his family at the school. He alleged that last year, another teacher had assaulted his six-year-old daughter, causing her hand to swell for a week, which was followed by an apology from the school. Now, he is determined to take further action, stating, “When I told the school owner I would file a police complaint, he agreed.”

However, Arpita VL, the school’s head of administration, dismissed the claims, stating the boy’s injury was accidental. According to her, Azmath only raised a scale in warning after being splashed, and the boy’s injury occurred when he ran into a table.

Police have confiscated the wooden roll used, which was reportedly wrapped in cellophane tape. Initially, it was believed a broken scale was used, but further investigation clarified the object involved in the incident.
