In a shocking case of brutality, a techie couple from Bengaluru has been arrested for the murder of 15-year-old Sumaina, who had been working as a nanny for their child. The incident occurred on September 27 at the couple’s residence in Banganapalli, Bengaluru. The teenage girl, originally from Rajasthan, was allegedly struck on the head multiple times by her employer, Ashwini Patil (37), after eating some food meant for the child.
Sumaina had been brought in from an orphanage in Odisha to work for the couple. After the assault, the couple did not seek medical attention for the victim. She succumbed to her injuries the following day. In an attempt to cover up the crime, the couple placed her body in a suitcase and transported it to a remote location in Tamil Nadu, where it was disposed of under a bridge in the Vaikuntam area on September 28.
The suitcase was found by locals on September 29, leading to an investigation. Tracing the purchase of the suitcase and reviewing CCTV footage, police tracked the couple to Odisha, where they were apprehended. The suspects have been placed in judicial custody in Salem Central Prison, while investigations continue.
Sumaina is survived by her parents in Jaipur, who have been informed of her tragic death.
