A 26-year-old software engineer has filed a criminal complaint against a woman he met on a dating app, alleging that she drugged and robbed him of valuables worth over ₹6 lakh at a hotel in Indiranagar, east Bengaluru.
Met on Happn app, invited to hotel after dinner
According to police, the complainant met the accused woman through the Happn dating app about two months ago. After chatting online, they agreed to meet in person on November 1 at The Reservoire, a popular restaurant and bar in Indiranagar.
In his complaint, the techie said that after the two had drinks together, the woman claimed she couldn’t return to her paying guest accommodation and persuaded him to book a room at Octave Crystal Heights hotel nearby.
“She gave me water, and I lost consciousness”
“At the hotel, we ate food she ordered online. She then gave me a glass of water. After drinking it, I lost consciousness,” the complainant stated in his police report filed on November 8.
When he woke up the next morning, he found his gold chain, bracelet, headset, and ₹10,000 in cash missing — together valued at ₹6.8 lakh. The woman’s mobile phone was switched off from the morning of November 2 and she has not been traceable since.
Techie delayed complaint over blackmail fears
The complainant told police that he initially hesitated to file a report because he feared the woman might leak his private photos on social media. “I mustered up courage and decided to file the complaint eventually,” he said.
Police investigation underway
A case of robbery and administering intoxicating substance has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police sources said both the victim and the accused are residents of Tamil Nadu.
Authorities are now scanning CCTV footage from the restaurant and hotel, and working to trace the woman’s digital trail through her phone number and dating app activity.
