A software engineer from Bengaluru, originally from Andhra Pradesh, has been confirmed dead in the recent terror attack at Pahalgam on Tuesday, according to police sources who spoke with Deccan Herald.

The victim, identified as S Madhusudhan Rao, resided in Ramamurthy Nagar in East Bengaluru. He had shifted to the city nearly three years ago from Kavali, a town in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. Rao was employed with IBM as a tech professional.

Police reported that Rao had traveled to Kashmir last Sunday along with his wife, children, and three other families. At the time of the attack, Rao was alone while his wife, son, and daughter had stepped out to collect food from a nearby camp.

Tragically, it was during this moment that armed assailants allegedly approached Rao and opened fire. The other families who accompanied them were in close proximity but were fortunate to escape unhurt.

Officials investigating the case stated that a team had gone to visit Rao’s residence in Ramamurthy Nagar, but found the house locked. “We were told that the body is being flown to Chennai before being handed over to his relatives in Andhra Pradesh,” said a police officer from the local station.

This incident adds to the growing list of civilian casualties in the Valley, heightening concerns over safety for tourists in conflict-prone regions.
