Bengaluru: Financial stress is no longer limited to those living paycheck to paycheck. Even well-paid professionals struggle with rising living costs, growing family responsibilities, and economic uncertainties.
A Bengaluru techie recently shared his reality on the Indian Workplace subreddit, exposing the fragility of urban life despite earning ₹1.5 lakh per month. In a candid post titled “Why does life in a metro feel so fragile?”, he revealed fears of financial instability if he lost his job.
“I’m 26M, living in Bangalore with my to-be wife (26F). I earn about ₹1.5L per month and support my family while paying an EMI back home. I manage to save ₹30,000-40,000 monthly,” he wrote.
He had once dreamed of a thriving life in Bengaluru—financial success, a fulfilling relationship, and the city’s vibrant energy. However, reality feels as delicate as a “fragile pot of flowers.” Despite his substantial income, expenses for family and loans leave little room for financial security.
His post resonated with many young professionals, sparking a broader discussion on financial struggles in metro cities.
One user remarked, “Income isn’t wealth. The only secure ones have generational wealth. The rest of us struggle.”
Another added, “Welcome to adulthood—constant financial stress is the norm.”
A third suggested, “Look for alternative income sources. A single salary isn’t enough these days.”
