In a significant development, Bengaluru police have apprehended seven suspects involved in the brutal murder of a 17-year-old girl, whose body was discovered inside a torn suitcase on May 21 near the old Chandapura railway bridge.

The Suryanagar police, under Bengaluru Rural division, traced the accused to Nawada district in Bihar and are in the process of bringing them to Karnataka for further investigation.

Three of the arrested individuals have been identified as Ashiq Kumar, Mukesh, and Rajaram Mohan. Police revealed that Ashiq Kumar is married with two children. The motive behind the gruesome crime is still under investigation, and all suspects are currently being interrogated.

The suitcase, blue in colour and visibly damaged, shocked authorities and locals when it was found with the body of Reema, a minor who had been reported missing. Initial theories suggested the body may have been discarded from a moving train, but further probe revealed the murder occurred elsewhere. The victim’s body was then stuffed into the suitcase and transported by cab to be dumped near the tracks.

The absence of identification documents in the suitcase made the case difficult to crack initially. Police had issued several missing person alerts across Karnataka before confirming the victim’s identity.

Bengaluru Rural SP CK Baba said that although such cases typically fall under railway police jurisdiction, local law enforcement intervened due to jurisdictional overlap and the seriousness of the crime.
