BENGALURU: A 15-year-old high school girl was strangled to death and her body dumped in an isolated area in Kaggalipura on Wednesday night. The Kaggalipura police have arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as Appu alias Pappi, a daily wage labourer from Thattaguppe, in connection with the crime.

Girl went missing after stepping out at night

According to the police, the incident occurred when the girl stepped out to a nearby farm to attend a call of nature. Appu, who was familiar with the family, allegedly followed her. Police said he strangled the girl and later dumped her body in a secluded spot before fleeing the area.

When the girl did not return home, her mother, Savitramma, grew worried and filed a missing person complaint at the Kaggalipura police station. A search operation was launched immediately.

Investigation reveals motive linked to family disputes

During the inquiry, police discovered that the victim was living with her cousin, who was reportedly in a relationship with Appu. The victim had objected to Appu’s frequent visits to the house, especially during her study hours. The two cousins had also been involved in frequent arguments over small matters, according to investigators.

Police said the girl had warned Appu to keep away from her cousin. This enraged the accused, who allegedly saw it as an insult, leading him to commit the murder.

Accused arrested, police continue investigation

Following the complaint, the police tracked down Appu and arrested him. He has been booked for murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is underway to determine if the crime was premeditated and whether anyone else was involved.

The tragic incident has shocked residents of Thattaguppe and surrounding areas, with community members demanding stricter surveillance in rural settlements and swift action in crimes against minors.
