A 31-year-old tourist from Bengaluru lost his life after being swept away by a strong wave while visiting Kodi Bengre Delta Beach near Malpe in Udupi district.
The deceased has been identified as Kushal S. He was on a three-day holiday in Udupi with his wife Monica and their child when the tragic incident occurred.
Wave sweeps away tourist
According to a complaint filed by his wife, the family was spending time at the beach when Kushal went near the water to wash his feet. A sudden and powerful wave struck him, causing him to lose his balance and get swept into the sea.
Bystanders and rescuers rushed to help, and Kushal was eventually brought back to shore. He was immediately shifted to a hospital in Manipal for treatment.
Succumbs despite treatment
Despite efforts by medical personnel to save him, Kushal did not respond to treatment and passed away on Sunday.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by strong currents and unexpected waves along coastal areas, particularly during changing weather conditions.
Police register case
The Malpe Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and have initiated further investigation into the incident.
Authorities have repeatedly advised visitors to exercise caution near the shoreline and follow safety instructions while visiting beaches and coastal destinations.
