Bengaluru : A 28-year-old tourist from Bengaluru died of a suspected heart attack while on a trip to Kodachadri in Shivamogga district, highlighting growing concerns over sudden medical emergencies during trekking and travel.
The deceased has been identified as Shrikanth, who had travelled to Kodachadri with three friends. The group had stayed at a friend’s house in Kattinahole village near Samphekatte in Hosanagara taluk and was preparing to begin their trek to the Kodachadri peak the following morning.
Collapsed during the night
According to reports, Shrikanth’s health suddenly deteriorated during the night, and he collapsed unexpectedly. His friends rushed him to the Government Hospital in Hosanagara, but doctors declared him dead before he could receive treatment. Preliminary reports indicate that he suffered a heart attack.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident.
Second such death in a month
The incident is reported to be the second death linked to a suspected heart attack during a Kodachadri trip within a month, raising concerns about the health risks associated with strenuous travel and trekking, particularly among young adults.
Kodachadri, one of Karnataka’s most popular trekking destinations, attracts thousands of visitors every year with its scenic trails and panoramic views. Experts advise trekkers to undergo basic health checks, remain hydrated and avoid strenuous activity if experiencing symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness or breathlessness.
Authorities have urged visitors planning trekking expeditions to take necessary health precautions, especially those with a history of heart-related ailments or other underlying medical conditions.
