Heavy overnight showers plunged Bengaluru into traffic turmoil and waterlogging on Thursday morning, disrupting the daily commute across multiple areas. The Bengaluru City Traffic Police issued several advisories, cautioning motorists about slow-moving traffic and flooded roads.
Major congestion was reported from Vaddarapalya to Hennur and Geddalahalli due to stagnant rainwater. Similarly, traffic crawled on the Ramamurthy Nagar to Kasturi Nagar service road, with vehicles struggling to navigate through flooded stretches.
The downpour, part of the revived southwest monsoon, has not only caused road blockages but also affected air traffic. On Tuesday, an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Bengaluru had to be diverted to Coimbatore due to bad weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued rainfall with thundershowers over the coming days. Warnings have been issued for Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Koppal, Bagalkot, and Belagavi, all likely to experience heavy rains.
An orange alert remains in effect for regions like Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru, anticipating very heavy showers. A yellow alert has also been sounded for North Interior Karnataka, including Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, and Vijayapura, warning of isolated heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging citizens to avoid waterlogged areas and plan their travel accordingly. Commuters have been advised to follow traffic updates and stay alert as rain-related disruptions are likely to persist.
