Bengaluru traffic curbs announced for St. Mary’s feast

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced traffic restrictions, diversions and parking curbs around Shivajinagar on Saturday, August 29, in view of the annual feast and flag-hoisting ceremony at St. Mary’s Basilica. The measures are intended to manage the expected movement of devotees and ensure the smooth conduct of the religious event.

Traffic restrictions from afternoon

The restrictions will be in force from 1 pm to 10 pm on August 29. Several roads around Shivajinagar will see temporary changes in vehicle movement, with motorists advised to plan their journeys in advance.

Restrictions include vehicle movement from Balekundri Circle towards Jyothi Café Junction, as well as traffic from Shivaji Circle towards Jyothi Café Junction. Restrictions will also affect routes connecting B.R.V. Junction, Select Junction and Jyothi Café Junction.

Alternative routes advised

Motorists travelling through central Bengaluru have been asked to use alternative routes wherever possible during the restriction period.

The traffic arrangements are intended to reduce congestion around Shivajinagar, where a large number of devotees are expected to gather for the feast-related programme.

A separate traffic advisory issued for the St. Mary’s Basilica procession has also listed restrictions around Russel Market, Broadway Road and nearby stretches, with commuters advised to avoid the area during peak event hours.

Parking restrictions in place

Parking will also be restricted on several roads surrounding the event area. Authorities have made designated parking spaces available to help accommodate visitors and prevent roadside congestion.

The annual feast at St. Mary’s Basilica is an important religious celebration in Bengaluru and attracts large crowds of devotees. The celebrations are scheduled to begin on August 29 and continue for 11 days until September 8.

Traffic police have appealed to commuters to cooperate with personnel on duty, follow diversion signs and avoid unnecessary travel through Shivajinagar during the restricted hours.
