Bengaluru residents are enjoying a nostalgic return to the city’s past climate, as the city experiences refreshing hill station-like weather. Over the last few days, temperatures have dropped significantly, lingering between 26-27°C — below the seasonal norm of 31°C.

On June 17, the maximum temperature recorded was 27.1°C, while on June 15 and 16, the Bengaluru IMD recorded even lower highs of 26.1°C and 26.6°C, respectively. Remarkably, Bengaluru was cooler than Srinagar (30.5°C), Dehradun (28.8°C), and even Lonavala (26°C) at the same time. However, hill stations like Shimla (21.6°C) and Darjeeling (20.2°C) remained colder.

According to N Puviarasan, Director-in-Charge at IMD Bengaluru, such temperature dips in the city are not unusual. He attributed the current cool spell to consistent rainfall and cloud cover. “This year’s June temperatures are significantly lower than last year’s. The early and active southwest monsoon, along with heavy showers in coastal Karnataka and the Western Ghats, has led to this drop,” he said.

The cool weather is expected to persist for the next three days before temperatures begin rising again. While most regions across Karnataka and southern India are experiencing steady monsoon rains, northern parts of the country are yet to receive similar relief.

For now, Bengaluru’s unexpectedly cool days have provided residents a pleasant break from typical summer heat, evoking memories of the city’s once-consistent, breezy charm.
