Ahead of the monsoon season, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has urged residents to inspect trees within their properties and apply for the removal of weak or dangerous trees that could pose risks to life and property.
In a public notice, the authority stated that dangerous trees and branches posing imminent danger should be reported to the Tree Officer and Assistant Tree Officers for necessary action under the provisions of the Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act, 1976.
Residents asked to submit applications
The GBA directed property owners to submit tree-felling applications if they identify trees or branches that may collapse during heavy rain or strong winds.
According to the notice, authorities will examine the applications and take action as per legal procedures outlined under Section 8 of the Act.
Officials said the precautionary measure is aimed at reducing risks during the monsoon period, when incidents of falling trees and branches often disrupt traffic, damage vehicles, and threaten public safety in Bengaluru.
Property owners held responsible
The notice further clarified that property owners will be responsible for ensuring dangerous trees or branches within their premises are removed in time.
Civic authorities have repeatedly faced criticism during previous monsoons over uprooted trees, waterlogging, and infrastructure disruptions across the city.
Monsoon preparedness underway
With monsoon showers expected in the coming weeks, Bengaluru civic agencies have intensified preparedness measures including drain cleaning, pothole repairs, and inspection of vulnerable trees.
Authorities have also advised residents to report visibly damaged or leaning trees to civic officials immediately to prevent accidents during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms=#Bengaluru #Monsoon #TreeSafety #Environment #PublicSafety #newskarnataka
