A vegetable seller in Bengaluru spotted wearing a head-mounted device fitted with an iPhone has sparked widespread curiosity and discussion online about artificial intelligence and emerging data collection jobs.

The unusual sight was shared on Instagram by a user named Vaibhav, who claimed he noticed the vendor while travelling on his scooty and stopped to ask about the device strapped to the man’s forehead.

Vendor allegedly collecting AI training data

According to the Instagram post, the seller explained that the setup — reportedly involving an iPhone and memory storage device — was being used to record real-world surroundings for artificial intelligence training purposes.

The man allegedly claimed he was collecting “real-world data” to help AI systems understand how humans interact with objects and environments.

Vaibhav further stated that the vendor told him he was being paid around ₹350 per hour for the work.

Social media stunned by possible earnings

The post quickly drew attention online after users calculated that the work could potentially generate earnings exceeding ₹1 lakh per month if performed regularly.

Many users expressed surprise that AI-related data collection jobs were creating unexpected earning opportunities outside traditional corporate roles.

Others discussed how such “egocentric data collection” could help robotics and AI companies train systems to perform everyday human activities such as cooking, cleaning, and handling objects.

Questions raised over AI and future jobs

The incident also sparked broader conversations around India’s evolving role in the global AI economy and the emergence of unconventional technology-linked jobs.

Some users speculated that such work may become part of a larger AI services ecosystem involving real-world human behaviour data used to train robotics and automation systems.

However, the claims made in the social media post have not been independently verified.#Bengaluru #ArtificialIntelligence #Technology #SocialMedia #Innovation #newskarnataka
