A 54-year-old Bengaluru homemaker has filed a police complaint against officials at the State Bank of India (SBI), Dollars Colony branch, alleging the theft of gold and diamond jewellery worth approximately 145 grams from her bank locker.

According to the complaint, Bindu C.D., who has held a locker facility with SBI since December 2022, last accessed her locker in November 2024 and confirmed all valuables were intact. However, during her next visit on March 28, 2025, she found that the jewellery was missing.

Bindu immediately raised the issue with bank officials, but they allegedly dismissed her concerns, stating there was no unauthorized access. Despite escalating the matter to SBI’s customer care and even to the chief vigilance officer, Bindu said she was met with evasive responses and told to “check at home” for the missing items.

With no resolution, she approached the Sadashivanagar police, who registered a case against unnamed SBI officials under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to theft in dwellings, vehicles, or places of worship.

The police have launched an investigation and plan to question bank staff, review CCTV footage, and examine locker access logs to determine if there was a breach.

The incident has sparked concerns over locker security in banking institutions and is likely to prompt further scrutiny of protocols at public sector banks.
