Bengaluru: A late-night commute turned into an inspiring tale of kindness and responsibility for a Bengaluru woman who praised her Rapido rider for ensuring her safe journey home despite a breakdown on a dark, isolated stretch of road. The woman, identified as Asha Mane, shared a video and a detailed account of the incident on Instagram, describing how the rider’s actions restored her faith in humanity and safety during night travel.
Mane booked a Rapido ride around 11.45 pm for a 38-kilometre journey across the city. Wanting to reach home quickly, she requested the rider to speed up slightly, and the two continued along their route without any issues initially. However, the situation changed suddenly when the bike hit a pothole, causing the chain to snap. They were left stranded on an empty road with no shops or assistance in sight.
According to Mane, her immediate assumption was that the rider would cancel the trip or suggest that she book a new ride. Instead, he calmly assured her that he would fix the problem and ensure she reached home safely, refusing to leave her alone at that hour. Mane said this assurance gave her a sense of comfort despite the unsettling situation of being stuck in the middle of the night.
Rider fixes bike chain on dark road using minimal tools
Recalling her own experience as a former rider, Mane said she felt it would be unfair to abandon someone who was genuinely trying to help. She stayed beside the rider, using her phone’s flashlight so he could see clearly while attempting to repair the chain.
The rider worked patiently, without frustration or complaint, managing to fix the chain in roughly ten minutes. Mane described the moment as one of mutual respect and calm cooperation between two strangers navigating an unexpected challenge together.
Once the bike was repaired, the two resumed their journey, and Mane reached her home safely at around 1 am. She said that at no point did the rider show irritation or discomfort, nor did he attempt to rush the repair or compromise on safety.
Viral video highlights importance of responsible riders
In her Instagram post, Mane shared short clips from the moment and expressed deep gratitude for the rider’s attitude and dedication. She emphasised that while social media is often filled with negative experiences, stories like this serve as reminders that “good people still exist”.
Her caption urged users to appreciate and acknowledge such delivery and ride-hailing workers, especially those who take responsibility for the safety and comfort of women travelling late at night. She also tagged Rapido, requesting that the rider be recognised for his exemplary behaviour.
Her post quickly gained traction, with many users praising the rider for his integrity and presence of mind. Some commented that experiences like these help rebuild trust in ride-hailing platforms, especially among women who commute during late hours.
Rapido responds, promises to honour rider
Rapido’s official account responded to Mane’s post, calling it “heartwarming” and celebrating the rider’s commitment. The company wrote that “not all heroes wear capes” and acknowledged the effort and honesty shown by the rider, especially at a time of night when most people would hesitate to help.
In their comment, Rapido stated, “Some fix chains under a streetlight at 12:50 am and still make sure you reach home safe. Thank you for sharing this moment of humanity and trust. We’ll make sure he gets the recognition he deserves.”
The company also assured that the rider would be honoured for his actions, which set an example of responsible conduct in the gig economy and reflect positively on the brand.
