Bengaluru: A 19-year-old man running an Instagram account named ‘Dilbar Jaani-67’ has been arrested by Ashok Nagar police for allegedly filming women in public places and uploading the videos online under the tagline ‘Bangalore Night Life’.
The accused, Dilavar Hussain MD, a delivery boy from Byrathi in Kothanur and a native of Manipur, is said to have secretly recorded women on streets like MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Koramangala, and Indiranagar. Police found many of the videos to be obscene, showing women from behind without their consent.
Authorities took suo-motu cognizance of the content after monitoring social media platforms. According to PSI Nabi Saab’s complaint, Hussain uploaded over 14 such videos in the past three months, aiming to gain followers.
He has been booked under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, which deals with publishing or transmitting obscene content in electronic form. Police also plan to request Instagram to remove the offending account.
Hussain is currently in custody and will be produced before court soon. This arrest follows a similar recent case in Punjab, where another individual was detained for posting objectionable content online.
