Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover has finally been fully opened to motorists after delays triggered sharp criticism and widespread public outrage on social media.

The much-awaited infrastructure project is expected to ease congestion on one of the city’s busiest traffic corridors and bring relief to thousands of daily commuters.

Opening delayed despite completion

The Bengaluru Traffic Police had inspected the flyover on April 2 after completion of the work. However, the opening was delayed, with officials citing the need for approval from higher authorities.

The delay led to frustration online, with many users questioning why a completed public project remained unused while commuters continued to face traffic bottlenecks.

Traffic now allowed on key stretch

The South East Traffic Police later announced on X that vehicles had been allowed to use the double-decker flyover from HSR 5th Main to Jayanagar (Ragigudda) on the Outer Ring Road corridor.

The route is seen as a crucial link for commuters travelling through the heavily congested Silk Board Junction region.

Big relief for commuters

Silk Board has long been one of Bengaluru’s most talked-about traffic choke points, often becoming the subject of jokes and memes due to severe congestion.

The full opening of the flyover is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce signal wait times and shorten travel duration for many motorists.

New milestone for city roads

The double-decker structure is also considered a major milestone in Bengaluru’s urban transport planning, combining road infrastructure with metro-related development in a compact corridor.

Residents will now closely watch whether the new flyover delivers lasting congestion relief
