The HCG Cancer Centre in Bengaluru recently hosted the “Sarcoma Strong” “Right Step First Time” 5K walkathon, aimed at raising awareness about sarcoma, celebrating the journeys of survivors, and supporting those currently battling the disease.

The walkathon, part of a global initiative spanning nine countries, took place at St. Joseph’s Grounds, featuring a 5-kilometer route through Cubbon Park and Vidhana Soudha. The event was graced by sarcoma survivors including Manisha Kumar, Chief Operating Officer Karnataka at Healthcare Global Enterprises Limited, and Dr. Pramod S. Chinder, Head of Orthopaedic Oncology at HCG Cancer Centre.

The event kicked off at 7:00 AM with inspirational speeches from survivors like Ms. Pratheeksha, an MBBS student; Raveena, an engineering student; and Arnold Rego, a merchant navy officer. Ms. Manisha Kumar flagged off the walkathon, which saw enthusiastic participation from over 1,000 individuals including cancer survivors, patients, their families, and hospital staff.

Manisha Kumar praised the walkathon as a celebration of strength and resilience, emphasizing the importance of community support in the fight against sarcoma. Dr. Pramod S. Chinder highlighted the event’s role in promoting hope and solidarity while reinforcing HCG’s commitment to advancing treatment and compassionate care.
