A growing number of young Bengalureans are ditching early-morning jogs for late-night sprints. College students and professionals say night runs fit their schedules better, offering cooler weather, quieter streets, and less traffic.

Rohit, a BBA student, runs 45 minutes around S G Palya after his gym session, avoiding daytime congestion. Engineering graduate Pranav N prefers a 10.30 pm jog near Rajkumar Park for its peaceful atmosphere. Amit, a corporate professional in Koramangala, finds the night’s silence and city lights almost magical.

While some worry about safety, runners like Aditi feel secure. She and her roommate jog at 8.30 pm between BTM Layout and Tavarekere, noting the well-lit streets and continued activity. Police also assure safety with regular night patrols.

However, experts caution against intense nighttime workouts. Athletics coach Bindu Rani G warns of metabolic disruptions, while Dr. Faraz Khan notes that high-intensity runs before bed can disturb sleep cycles. Instead, he recommends gradually transitioning from brisk walking to running and practicing relaxation techniques.

Dr. Srinand Srinivas suggests keeping night workouts light and wrapping up intense sessions by 7-7.30 pm for better recovery. Despite the trend, morning exercise remains ideal, providing sunlight exposure and mood-enhancing benefits.
