Bengaluru’s infamous traffic jams have earned the city yet another distinction – the “Chaar Jam Yatra” or a “4-day, 3-night trip,” a tongue-in-cheek offer made by Infosys director Mohandas Pai. In a post shared on X, Pai highlighted some of the city’s notorious traffic hotspots, including Outer Ring Road, Silk Road Junction, Marathahalli, and HSR Layout, humorously calling it a “sad joke” about the state of Bengaluru’s infrastructure.
Pai’s post quickly went viral, attracting over 177.5K views, with many users reacting to the situation in jest and frustration. Some joked that the lack of Kannada on the poster could upset locals, while others quipped that Bengaluru has a “10-minute delivery app” that somehow doesn’t apply to its roads. One user pointed out that, at least, Bengaluru residents now seemed to be “raising their voice against the mess,” breaking out of the city’s weather bubble.
Several people compared Bengaluru’s traffic to other cities, like Pune, sharing their own “jam spots” and adding more humor to the discussion. A particularly witty response read, “Yatra could not commence due to jams in various parts of the city.”
Amid the viral online discussions, Mohandas Pai met with Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to address Bengaluru’s critical infrastructure issues. Pai emphasized the need for better urban planning, including improved roads, sidewalks, and expanded metro lines. After their meeting, Pai expressed hope that Shivakumar would push for “significant development within six months,” reassuring the public that action would be taken on the raised concerns.
