A 37-year-old bike taxi rider from West Bengal was allegedly attacked and robbed of Rs 15,500 by three miscreants in the Sarjapur police station limits during the early hours of Saturday.
The victim, identified as MD Rukun Uddin, has been residing in A Narayanapura, KR Puram, for the past seven years. He was reportedly targeted while working as a bike taxi rider.
Ride booking turns into robbery
According to police, one of the accused, identified as Ravi, booked a ride from Electronic City Metro Station around midnight. The destination provided was B Hosahalli in Anekal taluk.
As the rider neared the drop location, the passenger allegedly asked him to stop, claiming he was facing difficulties making a UPI payment. Moments later, two accomplices arrived on a motorcycle.
The trio allegedly assaulted Uddin and dragged him near a bush before threatening him with a knife. They then robbed him of approximately Rs 15,500.
Police arrest two accused
Police said the accused forced the victim to contact a relative and request money before returning his mobile phone and fleeing the scene.
Uddin later found his scooter abandoned nearby and approached the police. Based on digital transaction records linked to the ride booking, investigators tracked down and arrested two suspects on Sunday.
The victim has reportedly identified both accused during the investigation. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the third suspect.
Habitual offenders under scanner
Police believe the accused are habitual offenders who specifically target bike taxi riders operating during late-night hours. Further investigation is in progress
