In a disturbing incident near Nagarabhavi Circle on Saturday, four individuals — including a father and his young daughter — suffered minor injuries after an illegally erected flex banner collapsed onto their car during a spell of rain and strong winds.
The banner had been installed without permission to celebrate the birthdays of Vijayanagar MLA M Krishnappa and his son Priya Krishna, who represents Govindarajanagar. The massive hoarding, made of flex material, could not withstand the sudden gusts and tumbled down onto unsuspecting commuters.
According to Byatarayanapura traffic officials, the mishap took place around 4 pm. The vehicle involved sustained visible damage, while two passengers inside escaped with light injuries. Additionally, two pedestrians were reportedly hurt as the flex fell. The chaos led to a brief disruption in traffic movement along the busy road.
Officers from the Chandra Layout police station confirmed that no formal grievances or FIRs had been registered concerning the episode at the time of reporting.
Online, the public erupted in anger, criticizing authorities for allowing such hoardings to persist. Despite repeated warnings and a city-wide ban on unauthorised banners, political and personal advertisements continue to mushroom at every junction.
Many citizens took to social media demanding strict action and accountability, highlighting the risk these unsanctioned installations pose to public safety.
