Bengaluru : BJP MLA Munirathna, representing the Rajarajeshwari constituency, has been booked in two separate FIRs at the Vyialikaval police station. The charges include extortion and caste abuse.
In the first case, Munirathna, along with three associates—government official Vijaykumar, secretary Abhishek, and MLA’s aide Vasantakumar—is accused of extorting ₹30 lakh from BBMP contractor Cheluvaraj. The contractor alleges that the group threatened him to secure a solid waste disposal contract. Following Cheluvaraj’s complaint, the police have initiated an investigation.
The second FIR alleges that Munirathna used caste-based slurs against Velunayak. This case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
These allegations represent a significant setback for the MLA, raising serious concerns about the misuse of public office. The cases underscore the ongoing need for accountability and transparency within public service.
