Bengaluru: With cyberattacks and AI-generated threats becoming increasingly sophisticated, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is stepping up efforts to safeguard its digital and surveillance infrastructure.

The corporation has floated a tender to establish a state-of-the-art Security Operations Centre (SOC) at Baiyappanahalli, which will serve as the central command hub for monitoring and responding to both cyber and physical security threats.

Round-the-clock vigilance

Officials said the upcoming SOC will integrate BMRCL’s IT systems and CCTV surveillance networks, enabling real-time tracking and rapid response to incidents across the Metro network.

“The SOC will continuously monitor, detect, and respond to any potential breaches or anomalies in both IT and CCTV systems. It will function 24×7 throughout the year,” an official said.

The initiative comes as urban transport networks worldwide face growing risks from data breaches, ransomware, and AI-enabled attacks targeting operational systems and passenger data.

Focus on resilience

BMRCL’s move aligns with broader national efforts to enhance cyber resilience in public infrastructure, especially in high-footfall urban transit systems like Bengaluru Metro, which caters to over 7 lakh commuters daily.

Officials added that the SOC will be equipped with advanced analytics and threat detection tools to ensure network integrity, prevent intrusions, and strengthen passenger safety.
