HAL Police Station has launched a fresh investigation into the death of a 40-year-old scrap dealer after his family alleged foul play months after he was buried.

The deceased, identified as Imtiyaz, was found dead at his residence in Islampura in November 2025. At the time, his wife Naseera Banu reportedly informed relatives that he had suffered a heart attack, following which the body was buried quickly.

Family raised suspicion months later

Suspicion reportedly emerged when Yunus, the deceased’s brother, observed unusual behaviour from Naseera in the months following Imtiyaz’s death. He also alleged that customary post-death rituals were not observed.

In a complaint filed on March 28, Yunus accused Naseera and a man identified as Pasha of possible involvement in the death. According to police, Naseera had reportedly been working as a domestic helper at Pasha’s residence.

Investigators said preliminary inquiry revealed that Imtiyaz had objected to his wife continuing to work there due to suspicions regarding their closeness.

Body exhumed for postmortem

Police said that on the night before his death, Imtiyaz had returned home late, refused dinner, and later consumed milk allegedly given by his wife before going to sleep. He was reportedly found dead the following morning.

Acting on orders from the tahsildar, police exhumed the body on Thursday and sent it for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigation underway

Authorities confirmed that a suspicious death case has been registered. Police said further action will depend on the postmortem findings and interrogation of the individuals named in the complaint.

The case has drawn attention due to the delay between the death and the emergence of allegations surrounding possible foul play.
