Deputy CM and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar’s Brand Bengaluru initiative has received an additional ₹700 crore in the BBMP budget, bringing the total two-year allocation to ₹1,360 crore. This comes after an earlier allocation of ₹660 crore for 2024-25.

The BBMP budget outlines a three-year expenditure plan of ₹2,828 crore for the project. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath stated that a dedicated escrow account has been set up to manage the funds, ensuring structured financial oversight.

Brand Bengaluru, conceptualized with eight thematic priorities, has listed projects aimed at enhancing the city’s image and infrastructure. For 2025-26, ₹1,360 crore will be utilized, while an additional ₹1,468 crore has been earmarked for 2026-27 to complete pending works.

However, BBMP Administrator S R Umashankar admitted that many planned projects from the last fiscal year could not be executed due to delays in approvals and planning. With fresh funding this year, authorities aim to shift focus from planning to execution.

Despite the significant budget hike, insiders raise concerns about misallocation. A BBMP source remarked that excessive funds don’t necessarily lead to smooth execution, warning that mismanagement and corruption risks remain.
