Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said India is moving ahead with its indigenous bullet train programme, with Bengaluru set to play a key role in manufacturing the country’s high-speed rail future.

Speaking during the inauguration of a new facility at BEML in Bengaluru, the minister said the “Atmanirbhar version B-28” bullet train is being jointly designed by Integral Coach Factory and BEML.

Bengaluru plant to build bullet trains

The new Aditya Plant, equipped with robotic laser welding systems and precision machinery, will manufacture the trains domestically under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

Vaishnaw said the development marks a major milestone in India’s push for self-reliance in advanced railway technology.

Vande Bharat for Mangaluru and Madgaon soon

The minister also announced that a new Vande Bharat Express service connecting Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Madgaon is being planned.

He said electrification work between Hassan and Mangaluru has been completed, with testing and trials currently underway.

According to him, services are expected to begin within the next few months, bringing faster travel to coastal Karnataka.

New Bengaluru-Mumbai services announced

Vaishnaw further revealed two upcoming services to Mumbai — a superfast train via Hubballi-Dharwad and a Vande Bharat sleeper service between Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Both services are expected to start in the coming months.

Suburban rail gains pace

On the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, the minister said progress has improved significantly, citing better technical leadership and land acquisition movement.

The announcements are expected to strengthen Karnataka’s rail connectivity, boost industry and improve travel options for thousands of passengers
