The death of 33-year-old businesswoman S Jeeva, who took her own life following questioning by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the Karnataka Bhovi Development Corporation scam, has taken a shocking turn with a revelation on police misconduct. Jeeva’s younger sister, S Sangeeta, has filed a complaint accusing CID Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kanakalakshmi of abetting Jeeva’s suicide. An FIR has been registered against the senior officer, charging her with abetment to suicide and under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to Sangeeta’s complaint, Jeeva was summoned to the CID headquarters on November 14, where she was allegedly stripped by Kanakalakshmi during questioning, under the pretext of searching for hidden cyanide. The officer is also accused of taking Jeeva to her wood material shop in Peenya, where the businesswoman was publicly humiliated. Jeeva allegedly provided documents to Kanakalakshmi to support her innocence, but the officer demanded a bribe of Rs 25 lakh.

Jeeva, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom on November 17, left behind an 11-page death note stating that she had been humiliated during the police investigation. The incident came to light when a friend of Jeeva’s, unable to reach her by phone, went to her house and discovered her body.

The Karnataka Bhovi Development Corporation scam, which is being probed by the CID, involved the misuse of Rs 97 crore, with funds being transferred to over 500 fake beneficiaries. The investigation into Jeeva’s death is ongoing, with authorities yet to comment on the allegations against DSP Kanakalakshmi.
