The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has intensified its campaign against water misuse, booking 112 violations and collecting ₹5.6 lakh in fines from offenders across Bengaluru.

Following a directive issued on February 17, the board strictly prohibited the use of drinking water for non-essential purposes, including vehicle washing, gardening, construction, decorative fountains, and road cleaning. This enforcement aligns with Sections 33 and 34 of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Act, 1964.

With rising temperatures and depleting groundwater levels, Bengaluru faces a potential water crisis this summer. Scientists from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have sounded the alarm, linking the issue to recent rainfall shortages in the region.

Among the city’s zones, the southern region recorded the highest violations (33 cases), followed by western and eastern zones (28 each), and the northern zone (23 cases). The BWSSB continues to monitor and enforce regulations to curb water wastage and ensure sustainable usage.
