Wilson Garden police have arrested one suspect in connection with the assault of a cab driver near Shantinagar on May 22, marking the first breakthrough in a case that sparked widespread concern after CCTV footage of the incident surfaced online.

According to police officials, several other suspects are believed to be involved and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them. Authorities have withheld details of the arrested individual as the investigation remains active.

CCTV footage triggered outrage

The incident came to public attention after CCTV footage showing the assault went viral on social media. The video captured a group of men allegedly intercepting a cab near Shantinagar, dragging the driver out of the vehicle and physically attacking him.

The victim was driving a car attached to a cab service and was reportedly accompanied by a woman passenger at the time of the incident.

Following the circulation of the footage, police registered a case and launched an investigation to identify those involved.

Probe focuses on motive

Investigators are examining multiple angles and suspect that the presence of the woman passenger may have been linked to the attack. However, police clarified that the exact motive has not yet been established.

Officials said further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses and more evidence is analysed.
