Villages surrounding Electronic City, known for their farming and cattle-based livelihoods, are witnessing growing concern after a suspected organised cattle theft racket targeted local households.
In the latest incident, a family dependent on milk sales lost cattle worth ₹1.40 lakh overnight, leaving them in distress and financial uncertainty.
Overnight theft shocks family
Prasad, who earns his livelihood through cattle rearing, had tied his cows in the parking area of his home after feeding them on the night of April 14.
When he woke up the next morning, all the animals had vanished.
The stolen livestock included three cows and one calf, severely affecting the family’s only source of income.
Value of animals stolen
According to reports, the missing cattle included:
- Jersey cow, around 5 years old, valued at ₹60,000
- HF cow, about 1.2 years old, valued at ₹30,000
- Mixed breed cow, around 4 years old, valued at ₹50,000
Residents fear similar thefts could target more households if swift action is not taken.
Police begin investigation
A complaint has been registered at Electronic City Police Station and police have launched an investigation.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the accused and trace the missing cattle.
Villagers seek stronger security
Local residents have urged police to increase night patrols in villages around Electronic City, where many families still rely on farming and livestock despite rapid urban growth.
The incident has renewed concerns about the vulnerability of rural communities located close to expanding city zones
